Role:

The primary focus of the position is to review, analyze, and ensure credit quality of our lending portfolio including responsibilities aligned with underwriting our current member’s credit request and growth of our indirect portfolio.

Functions & Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of the Consumer Loan Underwriter is to analyze loan applicant's credit eligibility and make determinations to approve or deny a loan.

Participate in loan underwriting operations by approving or rejecting consumer loan applications within limit of authority and consistent with MFFCU policy, procedure and federal regulations. Consumer loans include direct and indirect auto loans, credit cards, personal loans, and home equity loans. Responsible for the appropriateness of credit analysis, due diligence, risk tolerance, loan structuring, pricing, profitability, and policy conformance. Communicates decisions clearly to sales staff within established department timelines. Meet established underwriting turnaround timeframes. Qualifies and recommends additional products.

Prepares verification documentation for loan file, including acceptance or denial, and returns file to processing department.

Represents the credit union on dealer calls, business gatherings, and social events with the objective of developing partnerships, and membership development in the community.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and some related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 – 3 years of progressing banking experience (Sales/Lending in a Financial Institution, Mortgage Company, or Dealership); required.
