INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Project Coordinator Intern position is part of the E-Z Bel Construction College Internship Program, a structured summer internship designed to provide college students with hands-on exposure to heavy civil construction project delivery. This opportunity is intended for students currently enrolled in a construction-related degree program who are entering or currently in their Junior or Senior year of study.
Interns will primarily support Project Management teams while gaining exposure to estimating, procurement, and business operations that support construction projects. This internship is designed to introduce students to the construction industry and help prepare them for potential careers in construction management.
This internship is a temporary summer position lasting 10 weeks, running from June 1st - August 7th. Applications close April 24th!
POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Coordinator Intern supports the Project Management team by assisting with project documentation, field coordination, and construction workflow tracking while gaining hands-on experience in civil construction operations. Interns will work alongside Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and administrative staff to develop a foundational understanding of how construction projects are planned, coordinated, and executed from preconstruction through project closeout.
YOUR ROLE
- Assist Project Engineers and Project Managers with preparing and organizing project documentation including RFIs, submittals, and contract documents.
- Support the maintenance of project files, drawing logs, and current plan sets in digital project repositories.
- Observe and assist with project turnover activities including procurement coordination and material tracking.
- Participate in quantity tracking and production documentation using HCSS, Excel, or similar project tracking tools.
- Assist with organizing vendor quotes, subcontractor proposals, and procurement documentation.
- Conduct jobsite visits with Project Engineers and Superintendents to observe construction progress and understand field operations.
- Assist with verifying quantities, documenting field progress, and collecting production data during site visits.
- Observe and participate in coordination activities involving utility locates, inspections, material deliveries, and subcontractor scheduling.
- Support project teams in maintaining redlines, as-built documentation, and project revision logs.
- Attend internal project meetings and assist with organizing meeting notes and action items.
- Gain exposure to project lifecycle activities including estimating, scheduling, procurement, field execution, and project closeout.
- Provide general project coordination support to Project Managers, Engineers, and Superintendents as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or a closely related construction-focused program.
- Preferred standing: Junior or Senior at an accredited university.
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Interest in heavy civil construction and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both office and field teams.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
COMPENSATION
This is a paid internship position. College interns are compensated at an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour, paid in accordance with company payroll practices. Interns are classified as non-exempt employees and are eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Interns must be able to navigate active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during jobsite visits.
