Leads a team in the fabrication of aluminum trailers, meeting productivity goals without compromising safety or quality. Duties include performance management, employee relations, scheduling and assigning work, and ensuring adherence to quality standards and workplace policies.
This is the first step in manufacturing aluminum trailers. Must recognize and be conscious of quality, tolerance and accuracy of finished parts. Will operate ( brake press, benders, saws, belt sanders, CNC milling centers, and a shear ) in order to fill job orders. Will deburr, blow out all parts, stack and band all finished parts. Will operate and maintain set ups on special purpose machines where operations may involve several progressive machining sequences, and will give instructions on operating procedures. Requires complete knowledge of machine shop operations as acquired by on-the-job training and experience. Operation responsibility includes but are not limited to verifying blueprints, 1st piece inspections, proper measurements, safety of equipment operator is using, accurate count of parts and proper documentation on job orders. The work is repetitive and subject to processes inspection.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees a line of Production Fabrication Workers to meet daily production targets. Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results.
- Oversees the employee schedule to ensure adequate labor is available to meet production targets. Maintains the labor rate within the established range and seeks to improve efficiencies.
- Manages the performance of employees by setting expectations and goals; ensures that employees are provided both positive and constructive feedback in a timely manner. Ensures compliance with company policies, laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Ensures a well-rounded team through cross training; develops employees by offering challenging assignments and discussing opportunities for growth.
- Ensures that communication is sufficient from lead technician to Production Manager.
- Reviews work orders to identify potential issues to avoid delays in production.
- Reads job order and blueprint specifications.
- Set up machinery for jobs to run efficiently with all parts checked to blueprint and job order.
- Operate machinery efficiently while maintaining 1st piece inspection on all parts, all 1st piece inspections are checked to the job order and blueprint.
- Demonstrate timely communication of needed materials.
- Responsible for the safety of the equipment he/she is using. Responsible for notifying supervisor of any and all repairs needed.
- Recognize obvious defective or damaged parts, incorrect sizes, faulty workmanship and general quality. Double check job order to finished part.
- Must be able to follow directives and procedures and complete paperwork.
- Ensure no material is used or moved unless it has a part number on it.
- All counts must be consistently accurate.
- Work area must be maintained as clean and organized.
- Work in compliance with all safety, quality and housekeeping standards in accordance with company policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Required Education:
- A high school and/or GED is preferred.
- Must be able to read tape measure and follow a job order.
- Good math skills are required, must be able to give accurate counts. Must pass a measuring test.
- Must be able to read blueprints, must pass a blueprint reading test with 85% accuracy or higher.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are required, must have legible penmanship.
Training:
- Requires a fundamental knowledge of machine shop operations as required by short job training and experience.
- Must have some direct experience setting up some or all of the machines, brake press, punch press, drill press, benders, saws, belt sanders, shear, and CNC milling centers.
- Prefer direct experience instructing others and working as part of a team.
Qualifications:
- Physically fit to perform lifting assignments with a weight limit of no more than 40lbs.
- Must be able to read blueprints and job orders within 90 days of start date.
- Must have leadership experience.
