Reporter, Political Economy at South China Morning Post

About the Team:

The SCMP is looking for an experienced journalist to join the Political Economy team.

Purpose of the Position:

You will be part of the Post’s Political Economy team that delivers trust-worthy and influential news and analysis in China’s macro economy.

In this role, you will:

• Covering Chinese economic news and trends with a global perspective, and closely following Chinese macroeconomic policies
• Bringing economic news with coverage of China politics and/or international relations to the world via our print and online editions
• Developing contacts in government, academic and business communities, breaking and investigating stories via different contacts, press releases and other media
• Attending press events, conduct interviews and undertake news desk shifts and duties

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

• Degree holder in Journalism with 5 years of relevant working experience
• Strong familiarity with the Mainland China/Asia context of news, economic, political, diplomatic and business/finance, with a particular focus on Mainland China’s economy
• Good English writing skills, Putonghua speaker is strongly preferred
• Travelling to Mainland China is required

Work location can be Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong
