Principal Software Engineer

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will drive the development of highly scalable, distributed software that directly impacts thousands of developers and engineering teams. You will design, implement, and maintain critical backend services, transforming complex SDLC data into actionable insights. This role offers the chance to tackle challenging problems in data modeling, systems architecture, and cloud integrations while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. You will influence the technical direction of high-impact projects, ensure code quality, and mentor other engineers in a fast-paced, agile environment. Accountabilities:- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain backend software solutions in a Java-based, distributed environment.
- Author functional specifications, design documents, and implementation plans for new features.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues in production and distributed systems.
- Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps, and cross-functional teams to ensure smooth software deployment and operations.
- Perform code and design reviews, ensuring high standards of quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Own and deliver key system components, driving improvements in performance, reliability, and developer experience.
- Participate in iterative, agile development cycles, leveraging rapid feedback to improve system design and functionality.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience developing highly scalable, distributed applications, backend services, or enterprise software.
- Strong expertise in Java development, distributed systems, and backend architecture.
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and SQL performance tuning.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Knowledge of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and search frameworks (Elasticsearch, SOLR) is a plus.
- Proven ability to analyze complex systems, design scalable solutions, and mentor engineering teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills, with experience in short release cycles.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with periodic travel.
