Field Mechanic
Major Drilling America, Inc.
Major Drilling America, Inc. is one of the world’s largest drilling service providers to the global mining industry. The company delivers a full range of drilling services, including surface coring, directional drilling, reverse circulation, rotary, and environmental drilling. To support our operations, we are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Field Mechanic to maintain and repair drilling equipment in field locations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Safety & Compliance:
- Perform all work safely and actively promote company safety standards
- Comply with all MSHA and OSHA regulations
- Follow company policies, procedures, and field protocols
Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on:
- Surface drill rigs
- Support vehicles
- Auxiliary and ancillary drilling equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic inspections as directed by the Maintenance Manager
- Complete welding, hydraulic, mechanical, and limited electrical repairs
- Maintain equipment reliability in both shop and field environments
Planning & Documentation:
- Prepare parts lists and time estimates for repairs and maintenance work
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of repairs and associated costs
- Coordinate as needed with parts suppliers and equipment manufacturers
Work Environment & Travel:
- Work independently with minimal supervision in remote field locations
- Travel frequently to mining and drilling sites as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory management
Qualifications
Experience & Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in:
- Diesel and gas engines
- Hydraulic systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Preventative maintenance programs
- Experience maintaining drill rigs, heavy equipment, or similar industrial machinery preferred
- Basic electrical knowledge is an asset
Licenses & Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license required
- No DUI convictions
- Fewer than four moving violations within the past three years
- Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- English proficiency required
Work Conditions:
- Primarily field-based with frequent travel
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Will work and live at remote mining sites with close quarters and limited communication at times
- Physical ability to perform manual labor associated with mechanical repair work
