Description:

The Forestry Apprenticeship is a unique opportunity to learn the skills and competencies required to assist foresters in the care and management of forests across the northeast United States. The Apprenticeship will be a combination of on-the-job-training and college-level coursework over a period of 12-18 months depending on the individual’s pace of achievements and course scheduling. Your mentor will be a highly skilled, knowledgeable, personable and multi-state licensed forester located in LandVest’s Concord, NH office. You will work with a variety of LandVest Foresters, GIS Specialists and Operational Support Staff to provide a broad educational experience on most aspects of private forest/forestland management, as well as, specific skills to be a proficient timber marker and timber cruiser upon completion. Upon successful completion of this competency-based apprenticeship, you will be considered for a full-time position at LandVest. Alternatively, this immersive experience may motivate you to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Forest Technology or a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Management.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements to Qualify:

  • 18 years of age by July 6, 2026
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Desired Qualities:

  • Passion for recreating and desire to work outdoors
  • Strong grades or aptitude in mathematics and biology
  • Ability to communicate what sets you apart from the other candidates
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, in remote areas often alone

Apprenticeship Schedule

  • Start Date: July 6, 2026 (flexible)
  • Summer 2026 - Introductory training on basic concepts and tree identification. Introduction to Computers online course.
  • Fall 2026 – Enrollment in Dendrology (Tree Identification) at White Mountain Community College and continued on-the-job training.
  • Winter/Spring 2027 – Enrollment in Biology with Lab at New Hampshire Technical Institute and continued on-the-job training.
  • Summer 2027 – On-the-job training at various LandVest work regions
  • Fall 2027 – Enrollment in Natural Resources Field Methods at University of New Hampshire and continued on-the-job training.
  • Completion of Apprenticeship: December 23, 2027 (approximate)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This will be a full-time (40 hours per week) temporary position, paid on an hourly basis. Starting pay is $21.00 per hour. Pay will increase to $21.80 per hour upon completion of 4 of the 8 required competencies. Pay will be $22.60 per hour upon completion of all requirements of the program.
  • All travel time and in-class will be paid at the hourly rate. All study and homework time will not be paid.
  • Apprentice may be issued a company truck, fuel card and maintenance card. Personal use options are available. Apprentice must have a clean driving record to qualify for company truck.
  • 401k Retirement Plan with company match.
  • Educational Assistance: LandVest will pay 100% of the tuition and course materials for the Dendrology class.
  • Percentage of LandVest contribution for subsequent classes will depend on grade achieved in previous class. Apprentice must pay the remainder of costs.

A = 100% contribution

B = 80% contribution

C = 50% contribution

  • Relocation Assistance
  • All tools, equipment, materials and travel expenses reimbursement.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, the Apprentice will be invited to apply for a full-time position within LandVest’s Forest Resources Division. Position offered and location of position will be dependent on availability at the time and Apprentice’s demonstrated skillset. Full-time position includes the following additional benefits:

Application Process:

  • Application Deadline – May 1, 2026
  • Selection Process – LandVest will review all applications, select and notify Second-round Candidates by May 22, 2026.

Second-round will be required to provide:

  • High school transcript
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, employer, or commanding officer (if military).
  • A copy of a current driver’s license and permission for LandVest to procure their Motor Vehicle Report.

Interviews will be conducted in late May/early June. Apprentice will be selected and notified in mid to late June with anticipated start date of July 6, 2026.
