Pay Range -$80,000$95,000

Job Summary:

The QA/QC Specialist ensures that all underground utility construction workspecifically related to natural gas pipeline installation, maintenance, and related infrastructuremeets or exceeds industry, client, and regulatory standards. This role is responsible for inspecting job sites, monitoring field compliance, performing quality audits, and ensuring that safety and construction specifications are upheld in accordance with project, state, and federal requirements. The QA/QC Specialist plays a key role in reducing rework, maintaining compliance, and protecting the integrity of underground gas systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform job site quality inspections and audits for natural gas and underground utility projects to verify conformance with internal specifications, client expectations, and DOT standards.
  • Ensure installation and construction activities follow company standards, regulatory codes (e.g., PHMSA, OSHA), and operator qualifications (OQ).
  • Conduct field-level reviews of as-builts, redlines, and documentation to validate accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with crews, foremen, and project managers to address quality issues, provide real-time feedback, and document corrective actions.
  • Verify that material traceability, weld inspections, pressure tests, and tie-ins meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Review subcontractor and vendor work to ensure it meets quality expectations and contract requirements.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings and job walks to clarify quality expectations and job-specific QA/QC plans.
  • Maintain and manage electronic inspection records, photo documentation, checklists, and reporting tools.
  • Support the continuous improvement of QA/QC programs and procedures, including updates based on new standards or technology.
  • Assist in training field personnel on construction quality expectations, standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Report and escalate recurring or systemic quality issues to management with root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
  • Work with Safety and Operations teams to ensure coordination between quality, compliance, and safety objectives.

Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of QA/QC principles in underground utility and natural gas distribution construction.
  • Deep understanding of DOT/PHMSA requirements, gas operator qualifications (OQ), pressure testing protocols, and construction codes.
  • Strong analytical, observational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, as-builts, and technical specifications.
  • Competence with QA/QC reporting tools, inspection forms, and digital recordkeeping (e.g., iPads, GIS, Bluebeam, Smartsheet).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, leadership, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Ability to remain objective, fair, and constructive when identifying quality deficiencies or providing coaching.
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
  • Knowledge of trenching, HDD, gas main and service installation, and utility locates is a plus.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • NACE, API, or similar inspection certifications.
  • Previous work with utilities or general contractors performing gas distribution work.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, GIS-based QA tools, Bluebeam, or electronic inspection platforms.
