Duties & Responsibilities

Greets incoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter by obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information. Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using insurance verification software and/or payer websites. Verifies the identity of all patients.

Initiates upfront collections advising patients of any co-pay, deductible and deposit amounts. Provides necessary information to self-pay patients, including self-pay discounts, payment plans and referring to Office Manager/Supervisor and/or the Billing Office as needed.

Ensures appropriate forms are signed and, if applicable, scanned into the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains proficient knowledge of scanning and indexing information for the patient record.

Courteously and quickly answers incoming phone calls and routes to the appropriate person or creates a detailed message in the EHR for practice staff. Appropriately uses telephone and intercom system. Adheres to the policy that direct patient care should not be interrupted unless absolutely necessary.
Education/ Qualifications
Required

High school graduate or possess GED

Good interpersonal and communication skills

General office skills, including typing, use of computers and everyday job performance.
Preferred

Efficiency in using internet/email, EHR and data entry

Medical office experience preferred

Medical terminology and insurance experience
