Job Purpose: The Fiberglass Sub-Assembly Technician is responsible for performing precision sub-assembly operations on fiberglass components. This includes conducting quality inspections, drilling and cutting precise holes/features, and accurately loading/integrating parts and electronic components into fiberglass structures to ensure they meet design specifications, quality standards, and functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough visual and dimensional quality checks on fiberglass components and sub-assemblies to identify defects such as cracks, voids, delamination, surface imperfections, or dimensional inaccuracies, using tools like calipers, micrometers, gauges, and visual inspection methods.
- Drill precise holes, cutouts, and features in fiberglass parts using hand drills, drill presses, hole saws, routers, or other power tools, following blueprints, templates, or work instructions to ensure accurate placement and sizing.
- Load, position, and secure mechanical parts, hardware, inserts, brackets, and electronic components (e.g., wiring harnesses, sensors, lights, control modules) into fiberglass structures, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and fastening using adhesives, mechanical fasteners, clips, or other specified methods.
- Assemble sub-components according to detailed work instructions, blueprints, schematics, or engineering drawings, maintaining tight tolerances and proper orientation.
- Verify completed sub-assemblies for conformance to specifications through measurements, functional checks, and visual inspections; document any non-conformances and rework as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; handle fiberglass materials, resins, dust, and related substances with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow all company safety protocols, including proper use of respirators, gloves, eye protection, and ventilation systems when working with fiberglass dust or composites.
- Collaborate with team members, quality inspectors, and supervisors to resolve assembly issues and improve processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, including drills, routers, sanders, saws, and measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, tolerances, and assembly sequences.
- Strong attention to detail and quality orientation; ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistency and precision.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small parts and tools.
- Familiarity with safety practices for fiberglass/composite work (e.g., dust control, PPE, hazard awareness) is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical/vocational training in manufacturing, composites, or related field preferred.
- 1–3+ years of hands-on experience in assembly, fabrication, or sub-assembly work, ideally involving fiberglass, composites, plastics, or similar materials.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally
- Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs. (with assistance if needed), and work in a manufacturing environment with dust and noise.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions, normal office environment or factory environment that is not climate controlled. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The factory in certain areas maintains a high fiberglass and dust environment.
Personal Protective Equipment might be required in certain areas of the factory including but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves, and protective garments.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions must report to work fit for duty and must remain fit for duty throughout their workday. To be fit for duty, the employee must not be impaired by alcohol, illicit drugs, or medication.
