Job Summary:
Manages individual, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Departmental Primary Responsibilities:
- Verifies orders, verifies patient through two means of identification: name and birthday.
- Maintains confidentiality of the patient's protected health information.
- Demonstrates and maintains competencies to provide care for all cardiology special procedures, including, but not limited to, TEEs, Cardioversions, Dobutrex Stress Echocardiograms and assisting with stress tests as needed in the Nuclear Medicine Dept.
- Demonstrates competencies for all radiology special procedures, including but not limited to: flouro guided arthrograms, myelograms, lumbar punctures, hysterosalpingograms and venous access device evaluations; CT guided abscess drainage, CT guided liver biopsy, CT guided lung biopsy, CT guided bone biopsy and CT guided soft tissue biopsy; Ultrasound guided breast biopsies, liver biopsies, breast biopsies, lymph node biopsies, parotid biopsies and soft tissue mass biopsies; Ultrasound guided sonohysterograms; Ultrasound guided thyroid fine needle aspirations; ultrasound guided paracentesis with high volume albumin replacement if indicated; ultrasound guided thoracentesis; ultrasound guided breast needle localizations; stereotatic guided breast biopsies; ultrasound guided cyst aspiration and ultrasound guided fluid survey.
- Specials Procedures RN must also coordinate, order and make sure any required imaging needed prior to biopsy procedures are performed.
- Demonstrates and maintains competencies to perform voiding cystourethrograms which requires competency for pediatric catheterization.
- The Special Procedures RN is responsible for providing patients with results and or speaking with the radiologist who performed the procedure to give results of radiology procedures.
- Specials Procedures RN responds to any rapid responses and or code blues in the entire radiology dept, echo lab and special procedures areas.
- Special Procedures RN administers IV fluids for patients with decreased kidney function per Dr. Hale’s orders, calls in premedications for CT patients and has to be present for any premedicated CT patient scans and respond to any IV contrast reactions.
- Special Procedures RN draws labs, and accesses VADs for CT, outpatient lab, Nuclear Medicine Dept, MRI and Echo vascular lab.
- Special Procedures RN administers needed medications for all radiology departments as needed.
- Special Procedures RN is responsible for tracking patient biopsy results.
- Demonstrates competency in scheduling and coordination of all procedures with physicians and residents and radiologists.
- Competent in Moderate Sedation.
- Competent in PICC line placement.
- Competent with cardiac CTA's.
- Check and maintain 7 crash carts in the area.
- Demonstrates competency in scheduling and coordination of all procedures with physicians and residents and radiologists.
Education Requirements:
Must have a high school diploma and an associates' degree in nursing.
Certifications & Licensure Requirements:
Must be licensed with the State Board of Nursing in the primary state of residency. Must be ACLS certified.
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of nursing and must demonstrate proficiency in acute-care nursing knowledge and skills.
Language & Communication Skills:
English is required. Multilingual capabilities enhance the ability to perform this job. Must have the ability to speak effectively and professionally to all staff, management, and all outside individuals at all levels from elementary to professional.
