Job Summary:

The CAD Specialist is responsible for developing and managing 2D and 3D models, technical drawings, and point cloud-based analyses in support of Ballard Marine Construction’s estimating, engineering, and construction operations. This position plays a critical role in interpreting survey data, existing conditions, and engineering concepts to support proposal development, work planning, and construction execution. The role requires a strong understanding of construction means and methods, spatial data, and industry standards, and regularly interfaces with engineering, estimating, field, and survey teams to improve accuracy, efficiency, and constructability.

Ballard Marine Construction is seeking an experienced mid-level or senior CAD Specialist, with competitive salary ranges aligned to experience and technical expertise.

Education:

· Bachelor’s or Associate degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, drafting, engineering technology, or a related field/equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience:

· 2 -5+ years of experience working with computer-aided drafting (CAD), 3D modeling, and/or point cloud processing software.

· Knowledge of construction workflows, materials, methods, and means.

Skills:

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches.

· Working knowledge of mathematics and basic engineering principles as applied to drafting, modeling, and construction planning.

· Ability to identify and select appropriate tools, software, and workflows to complete drafting and modeling tasks efficiently.

· High attention to detail to ensure drawings and models are accurate, complete, and compliant with specifications and standards.

· Clear and effective communication skills, including verbal, written, email, and presentation formats.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

· Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, and internal policies and procedures.

· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Working knowledge of 3D modeling and analysis software such as Civil 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, HYPACK, ArcGIS, or equivalent platforms.

Responsibilities:

· Use CAD software to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings of existing conditions, fabricated items, site layouts, and temporary works.

· Produce detailed technical drawings based on concepts, specifications, and direction provided by engineers and subject matter experts.

· Apply appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

· Assist with engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials and Engineering Change Orders.

· Prepare graphics and presentations for design reviews, proposals, and internal meetings.

· Coordinate with engineers, estimators, clients, vendors, and subcontractors on design and drafting-related issues.

· Analyze and interpret 3D point cloud data.

· Review and interpret survey reports, maps, drawings, specifications, contracts, aerial imagery, and other site data to support project planning.

· Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating materials, equipment, and labor.

· Develop drawings for temporary structures in accordance with applicable construction and regulatory standards.

· Create sequence drawings and assembly plans for construction crews.

· Maintain drawing templates and coordinate with Traylor to ensure AutoCAD standards remain current.

· Support Quality Control and Quality Assurance efforts as required.

· Perform additional duties as assigned, including travel for meetings, site visits, and training as needed.

Physical Demands Working Environment:

· Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.

· Occasional standing, walking, and travel to project sites, which may include uneven terrain and outdoor conditions.

· Ability to lift and carry light equipment, up to 25 pounds

Salary Range:

· CAD Specialist I - $75,000 - $85,000

· CAD Specialist II - $85,000 - $100,000

· CAD Specialist III - $100,000 - $115,000

· Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
