Licensed Vocational Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant HPN

JOB SUMMARY

  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients under supervision of the physician or mid-level provider. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Education
  • Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

  • Minimum Work Experience
  • One-year License Vocational Nurse experience.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Current state vocational nurse license.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
  • Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
  • Knowledge of management and organizational theory to supervise the business practices including principles of employee development to train, delegate and mentor staff. Knowledge of medications and other pharmacological agents used in a clinic setting.
  • Knowledge in diseases and disease processes.
  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
  • Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  • Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
  • Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

JOB SUMMARY

  • The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. May be assigned to specific medical specialty department (e.g., orthopedics).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting. If not yet a CMA you will receive all hours required for the CMA exam. Hendrick Clinic will cover the fee for the first exam.

  • Minimum Work Experience
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience.

  • Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant within 26 months of hire

  • Must possess a current CPR certification
  • Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures

  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice

  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families

  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately

  • Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions

  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families

  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures

  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
