Nurse Tech Job Summary

The Nurse Tech position provides nursing students an opportunity to assist licensed nursing personnel in the implementation of day-to-day patient care as well as the routine operations of the nursing unit which assigned. The Nurse Tech provides care to the patients appropriate to the assigned unit.

Interventional Radiology - The shifts starts at 0800 and we are accepting both outpatients and in-hospital patients for procedures. These patients have varying levels of acuity but during the intraprocedural phase they are 1:1 until stable and in recovery phase 3:1. The skills that our nurse techs are expected to develop in this unit are quick assessment skills, IV starts, education about planned procedures/moderate sedation and working well with other radiology modalities (CT, IR, US), radiation safety, airway management, education and discharging patients' home or to the floor.

    • Set Up and Restock Unit According to Needs
    • Learn Preprocedural and Postprocedural Assessment Skills and Assist with Assessment Charting
    • Learn/Use all Unit Appropriate Equipment
    • Learn about and practice Radiation Safety
    • Gain Understanding of Consent and Legality Process Surrounding Procedures and Sedation
    • Learn Airway Management Basics
    • Assist RN with Inpatient Transports

You will have shadowing opportunities in Interventional Radiology (IR) at both campuses.

If you are available to work on weekends, we also offer CTA Coronary Heart Clinics on Saturdays and Sundays from 0700–1400, where you may assist as needed. Please note that these patients are not undergoing procedures; however, this is an excellent opportunity to further develop and refine your IV insertion and EKG skills.

Department hours –*weekends are opportunities to assist with CT Heart Clinics from 0700-1400, however these weekends are subject to change and/or cancelation and can not be used as your sole source of hours as a nurse tech in Radiology. IR is closed on holidays approved by HMC.

Required Licenses

• CPR: BLS certification through the AHA

Minimum Education

• Must be a nursing student entering 2nd through 4th semester of nursing school

Work Experience

• No previous work experience required
