Job Overview

Prominent Builders Inc is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Project Accountant to support financial operations across multiple active construction projects in the Greater Boston area. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate job cost tracking, billing, subcontractor compliance, forecasting, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, a deep understanding of job cost principles, and hands-on experience with Viewpoint Vista (Trimble Viewpoint). You will work closely with Project Managers, field teams, the CFO, and Ownership to maintain financial accuracy and help drive project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Accounting & Job Costing
    • Maintain accurate job cost records including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

    • Review project coding for accuracy and completeness within Viewpoint Vista.

    • Assist with monthly project forecasting and cost reviews.

    • Reconcile job cost reports with the general ledger.

  • Billing & Revenue
    • Prepare and submit AIA billings, time & material (T&M) invoices, and cost-plus billings.

    • Track subcontractor billing, lien waivers, retainage, and compliance documentation.

    • Reconcile project billings to job cost reports and general ledger accounts.

    • Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables related to project invoices.

  • Subcontractor & Vendor Management
    • Process subcontractors pay applications and vendor invoices with proper job cost coding.

    • Verify insurance certificates, W-9s, and lien waivers prior to payment release.

    • Maintain commitment logs, subcontract agreements, and change orders in Vista.

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and long-term contract forecasts.

    • Support revenue recognition and retainage tracking.

    • Generate AR and AP reports for Project Managers and executive leadership.

  • Project & Executive Support
    • Work directly with the CFO and Ownership on forecasting, AR, and AP analysis.

    • Collaborate with Project Managers to review job financials and provide cost guidance.

    • Maintain organized and audit-ready project financial documentation.

Qualifications
  • Required Experience & Technical Skills
  • 35+ years of construction accounting experience (commercial or residential).

  • Proficiency in Viewpoint Vista (Trimble Viewpoint), including:
    • AP, AR, Job Cost, PO, Subcontract, and Billing modules.

    • Vista reporting tools strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Job cost accounting

    • AIA billing formats

    • WIP schedules and revenue recognition

    • Retainage processing

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial analysis).

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Professional Skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills with field teams, subcontractors, and leadership.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify discrepancies and provide financial insight.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

Education
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent construction accounting experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Viewpoint Vista upgrades, workflow modules, or analytics tools.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts, AIA billing processes, and lien laws.
