- This position will be In-Office
- Monday - Friday, Day & Swing Shift
- The hiring range for this role is typically between $29.00 and $39.00 an hour, with the full range extending to $48.00 an hour based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
- Swing shift qualifies for a $1 shift differential
Primary Function:
The Field Service Tech is responsible for controlling robotic systems in real-time using various human-machine interfaces (HMI), such as VR headsets, joysticks, handheld controllers, and other input devices. In addition to performing teleoperation tasks, this role helps establish, document, and enforce operational procedures to ensure consistency, safety, and quality across teleoperation activities. This role bridges the gap between physical hardware and interactive control, executing precise robotic movements for testing, demonstrations, and deployment.

Work Environment
Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
- Operate robotic systems on-site using teleoperation tools (VR headsets, joysticks, custom HMI devices, etc.)
- Develop, document, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for teleoperation processes and testing workflows.
- Serve as a Robot Safety Officer, ensuring safe operation and access control within the robot’s workspace.
- Ensure adherence to established processes and safety protocols, identifying and correcting deviations when necessary.
- Follow structured procedures to carry out robotic tasks and test scenarios accurately.
- Collaborate with engineers and data specialists during operation sessions.
- Ensure safe, smooth, and consistent robotic control and task completion.
- Provide feedback on system performance, control responsiveness, and user interface improvements.
- Assist with equipment setup, shutdown, and basic maintenance or routine checks.
- Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in robotics, automation, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 yrs of experience operating machines or systems requiring strong hand-eye coordination (e.g., robotics, gaming, mechanical systems, industrial controls).
- Proficiency in Linux required for running basic scripts, diagnostics, or system controls.
- Experience with control interfaces such as VR headsets, joysticks, or haptic devices preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to create or refine procedural documentation and ensure compliance among team members.
- Basic understanding of robotic motion or kinematics is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and patience when performing precision-based tasks.
- Ability to follow procedures, adapt to new technology, and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
- Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values
