Production / Event Cook – Nights & Weekends (Seasonal)

Position Overview

The Production / Event Cook leads culinary execution at both on- and off-site catered events, including weddings, graduation parties, corporate functions, and private celebrations. This role is responsible for preparing and finishing high-quality menu items in dynamic environments that range from outdoor grill stations to commercial kitchens and venue-specific prep spaces. Success in this position requires strong culinary skills, confident leadership, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure.

The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced event settings, can multitask efficiently, and is comfortable interacting professionally with clients and guests. This seasonal role requires availability on nights and weekends during our busy season (May–October). Our headquarters is located in the south metro (Farmington, MN), with events taking place statewide.

Essential Functions

Review and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), production sheets, and event timelines to ensure accurate preparation and execution of menus and service detailsPrepare, portion, and organize menu items in the commercial kitchen prior to departure according to company quality standardsGather, inspect, load, transport, unload, clean, and organize catering equipment, grills, food, and service items for each eventSafely operate company vehicles to travel to and from event locations (as assigned)Set up satellite prep areas, grills, cooking stations, and buffet/service lines according to event layout and safety standardsPrepare and cook menu items on-site according to event specifications, quality standards, and established timelinesOperate grills and other cooking equipment, often in outdoor and non-sheltered environmentsAdapt to varying kitchen setups, prep areas, weather conditions, and venue-specific environments depending on the eventLead and supervise a small catering team during events (2–6 team members, depending on event type)Conduct on-site team briefings and delegate responsibilities including event setup, food presentation, buffet line attention, guest interaction, and breakdownServe as the on-site culinary lead and liaison between the company and the day-of contact, venue coordinator, or client as neededManage timing to ensure food is prepared, finished, and served according to the event scheduleEnsure proper food safety, sanitation, and handling procedures are consistently followed before, during, and after service
Monitor food quality, presentation, and replenishment throughout service to maintain company standardsOversee event breakdown, ensuring proper food storage, equipment cleaning, and organized packing of all materialsReturn to the commercial kitchen to unload, clean, sanitize, and properly store equipment and supplies following each eventMaintain professionalism and represent the company positively at all eventsArrive to assigned work shifts on time in a clean and professional appearance, adhering to company attire standardsAble to carry, lift, and hold heavy objects such as chafers filled with food, grills, equipment bins, and dish racksPerform additional duties as needed or assigned to support successful event execution

Qualifications:

Working towards or having a High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience in catering, high-volume cooking, or event-based food service preferredStrong grilling and on-site cooking experienceAbility to lead and manage a small team effectivelyExperience reading and executing BEOsExcellent time management and organizational skillsAbility to work outdoors in varied weather conditionsStrong communication and people-management skillsFlexible schedule, including evenings and weekendsPositive attitude and excellent communication skills
Able to have reliable transportation to shifts at various venues and locations in MN.


Additional Notes: Able to lift and push 50+ pounds. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Able to work in varied weather conditions.

Salary: $20-$25 hourly/non-exempt + tips eligible (DOQ)

Job Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) – Part-Time/Seasonal

Schedule: The Catering & Events Division primarily operates Thursday through Sunday, when the majority of events take place. Additional shifts may be available on other days of the week based on event demand and employee availability. Shifts may begin as early as 8:00 a.m. and extend to midnight or later, depending on event schedules. Flexibility is required, as hours will vary and may include extended days and late evenings.
