About This Position
The Clinic Volunteer plays a vital role in executing a variety of engaging activities tailored to the needs of children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other learning and developmental delays. The Clinic Volunteer will help create a safe, organized, and positive camp environment that encourages teamwork, creativity, and skill development while accommodating behavioral challenges.
Location and duration
June 29 – September 4 (Closed July 1 & Aug 3)
8AM to 4pm, Monday to Friday
Clinic based: Choose from Burnaby / Burquitlam / Port Coquitlam
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate diverse daily activities, creating an engaging and supportive atmosphere
- Aid in picking activities, motivating team participation and imaginative thinking.
- Proactively encourage positive behavior and teamwork, addressing behavioral challenges as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity environment at all times.
- Provide professional, positive, and respectful communication updates regarding behavior to caregivers
Qualifications:
- We encourage current university students pursuing careers in Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Behaviour Analysis, Education, Early Childhood Development or Psychology.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and legally authorized to work in Canada
- Experience in program coordination, recreationally-centered or community-based work is an asset.
- Experience working with a group of children with diverse needs is an asset.
