Job Description:
Are you a college engineering student looking for a paid internship opportunity?
Look no further!
The paid intern will provide basic technical engineering support in assigned areas and will work within a general outline of work and under general supervision, as well as be provided valuable experience working in the Public Works Engineering Divisions.
Typical tasks, but are not limited to:
- Assist with project research in addition to providing assistance with citizen inquiries and concerns.
- Assist in the preparation and review of engineering design reports, construction plans, specifications and cost estimates for drainage and transportation infrastructure improvement projects.
- Perform engineering duties such as project site investigations, attend progress meetings and interact with other City employees.
- Work under engineering staff to assist with safety related tasks to include, but not limited to, speed limit evaluations and curve warning evaluation.
- Help prepare exhibits for field work.
- Process data from existing and developing programs, such as City Traffic Calming and Sidewalk Ranking.
- Attend progress meetings and interact with City employees.
Required Qualifications:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s in engineering, drafting, or a closely related field. Must be a college student in good academic standing, or a recent college graduate (i.e., within one year of graduation).
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
The length of the internship may vary from depending on the student’s curriculum. The student will be able to work a maximum of 240 hours.
Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for :
- Providing their own transportation to and from work,
- Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the work site supervisor.
- Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the work site supervisor in an efficient manner.
- Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
- Conforming to the guidelines of the internship work site.
