About This Position
The Controller will oversee day to day accounting functions
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities, among others, include the following:
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes and produce accurate financial reports
- Analyze financial reports and develop new financial strategies to achieve company goals.
- Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide company expenditures.
- Maintain and analyze job cost tracking, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Oversee budget preparation and cash flow forecasting
- Monitor project financials and support project managers with financial reporting, cost control, and forecasting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant tax regulations
- Coordinate with external accountants, bonding agents, and auditors as needed including for the preparation of tax returns.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
- Support executive team with financial planning, reporting, and analysis
- Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as required.
- Manage financial aspect of new equipment acquisitions including purchases, leases, rentals etc.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a construction environment
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles (job costing, WIP, retainage, etc.)
- Proficient in Excel and financial modeling
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust accordingly as new priorities are presented.
- Familiarity with subcontractor compliance & lien laws in Florida.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with bonding agents and preparing financials for surety purposes
- Knowledge of underground utilities, site work, or civil construction is a plus
- Experience working in Pro Contractor
- Experience with ADP and payroll processing is preferred but not required
