ABOUT THE POSITION:
UD Team is a completely unique and revolutionary school model and the position of Assistant Dean of Restorative Practices equally unique. The position is responsible for supporting a consistent, positive, and pervasive school culture using a youth development framework that focuses on restorative and therapeutic approaches to behavior and discipline.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a distinctive network of sports-based high schools catering to over-aged, under-credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports-based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster a climate of high expectations by embodying Urban Dove Team Charter School's vision for school culture
  • Fully embrace Restorative Justice philosophy in response to student behavior
  • Collaborate and implement school wide incentive program (UD Cup)
  • Manage TLC store
  • Ensure the consistent and fair administration of school policies regarding student conduct and discipline
  • Remain fair, decisive, professional, calm and supportive of whole-child development
  • Participate in the determination and issuing of consequences for student infractions
  • Interview and work with students, parents, and staff to take necessary action in behavioral concerns
  • Manage and uphold school behavioral expectations
  • Serve as a resource to staff regarding student management issues
  • Openly and regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior
  • Oversee the cafeteria/sbyd to monitor student behavior and work closely with staff to maintain effective routines and practices.
  • Be highly visible to students and foster positive, supportive relationships with them
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to engage students, parents, colleagues, and community members in supporting youth development
  • Cooperate with instructional and guidance teams to implement student supports and interventions
  • Support dean’s with professional development sessions focused on classroom and school-based interventions that build student's positive character traits, sense of personal and shared responsibility, and ability to self-reflect.
  • Attend school events like awards ceremonies, enrollment nights, school productions, and Parent Teacher Conferences.
  • Model and exemplify all school core values at all times
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of the community dynamics of the South Bronx
  • Experience working with our diverse student population including: students with disabilities, ell students, students with trauma, formerly incarcerated youth, students with gang affiliations, students in the foster care system
  • Demonstrated ability to “multi-task” and deliver high quality work
  • Commitment to the UD Team mission and core values of Teamwork, Leadership, and Communication
  • Commitment to the use of restorative practices and a strength-based, youth development approach to student issues
  • Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
  • Must be team-oriented, with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, a passion for serving at-risk youth, and a sense of humor
  • ??Ability to actively engage with students and move throughout the school as needed.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and assist with setup or materials as required. Accommodations available per ADA.
