Job Title: Family Medicine Physician (MD/DO)
Reports to: Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
Salary: $200k – $225k FSLA Status: Exempt
Schedule: 40 hrs. (3, 4, or 5 day options, for 32 hrs. of patient care & 8 hrs. of admin time)
Location: Bland County, Virginia

Purpose:
The Family Medicine Physician (MD/DO) provides comprehensive, patient-centered primary care services to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in an outpatient Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting. The Family Med Physician delivers evidence-based medical care across the health–illness continuum, promotes wellness and disease prevention, and supports the mission to provide high-quality, culturally competent care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Care
• Provide comprehensive primary care services to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
• Perform preventive care services consistent with USPSTF and HRSA guidelines
• Conduct physical examinations and order, interpret, and document diagnostic and laboratory tests
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment and follow-up plans
• Prescribe medications in accordance with clinic protocols, formularies, and applicable laws
• Assess need for hospitalization and coordinate admissions when clinically indicated
• Provide referrals and care coordination in alignment with clinic referral policies
Patient Education & Preventive Care
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and self-care
• Promote health maintenance, wellness, and disease prevention strategies
• Provide anticipatory guidance and lifestyle counseling (e.g., diabetes management, smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise)
• Deliver care that is respectful of cultural, spiritual, and individual patient beliefs
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete medical records in the electronic health record (EHR) (eClinicalWorks)
• Update problem lists, medication lists, and chronic care documentation at each visit
• Ensure documentation supports quality measures, billing, and regulatory requirements
• Comply with HRSA, HIPAA, OSHA, and clinic policies and procedures
Quality & Performance Improvement
• Participate in quality assurance, risk management, and performance improvement activities
• Support clinic compliance with UDS, HEDIS, Meaningful Use, and PCMH standards
• Engage in peer review and ongoing evaluation of clinical practice
• Utilize quality data to improve patient outcomes and clinical practice
• Incorporate evidence-based guidelines into daily practice
Collaboration & Leadership
• Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners, nursing staff, behavioral health, dental, and care coordination teams
• Provide clinical guidance, education, and support to staff as needed
• Promote effective patient flow and continuity of care
• Serve as a role model for professional behavior, teamwork, and patient-centered care
Compliance & Professional Accountability
• Practice within the approved scope of practice, clinic policies, and HRSA program requirements
• Maintain current licensure, DEA registration, and required credentials
• Complete required CME and mandatory trainings (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA)
• Adhere to clinic safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness policies
Qualifications
Required
• MD or DO from an accredited medical or osteopathic school
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
• Unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• DEA registration and authorization to prescribe
Preferred
• Experience in a rural health or FQHC setting
• Commitment to serving underserved and vulnerable populations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Professional Expectations
• Maintain current licensure, DEA registration, and required CME
• Demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity
• Adhere to established safety, infection control, and workplace policies
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Provider will share on-call responsibilities with other full-time providers.
