About This Position

Product Operations Lead

Bowhead Digital Underwriting is the digital-enabled small business arm of Bowhead Specialty, focused on building and scaling digital underwriting capabilities that support Bowhead's specialty insurance businesses. The team operates at the intersection of underwriting, operations, actuarial, claims, and technology, enabling new products and enhancements to move from concept to production with speed, clarity, and discipline.

Position Summary

The Product Operations Lead is responsible for orchestrating the intake, prioritization, and delivery of all Bowhead Digital business initiatives. The role works directly with Digital leadership to define business priorities and requirements, partners with Technology to scope and execute work accurately and on time, and ensures all impacted stakeholders remain aligned throughout the delivery lifecycle.

The Product Operations Lead owns the business-facing execution — translating business needs into tech-ready requirements, managing delivery sequencing, coordinating business smoke testing and business sign-off of the requirements for the project. Will serve as the primary communication bridge between business and Technology. Success is dependent on the ability to manage complexity, maintain strong documentation, make informed trade-off decisions, and keep multiple teams aligned throughout delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Own intake, prioritization, and sequencing of all underwriting-related product work within Bowhead Digital, partnering with Underwriting, Operations, Actuarial, and Claims to align delivery with business objectives and capacity.
  • Translate cross-functional business needs into high-quality, tech-ready requirements, including scope, workflows, rules logic, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain clear documentation (e.g., requirements, rules libraries) that serves as the source of truth for business and Technology teams.
  • Partner closely with Technology to scope work, plan delivery, monitor progress, and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and on schedule.
  • Drive data-informed trade-off decisions when capacity, timelines, or dependencies conflict, clearly articulating impacts and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in user acceptance testing, ensuring solutions meet underwriting intent and downstream operational, actuarial, and claims needs.
  • Manage stakeholder alignment and communication across Underwriting, Operations, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution, keeping teams informed of progress, risks, and delivery changes.
  • Continuously improve delivery effectiveness by identifying bottlenecks, improving workflows, and using delivery metrics to increase throughput and quality over time.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in P&C insurance and/or Insurtech environment.
  • Proven experience in product operations, program management, business analysis, or delivery-focused roles.
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance concepts, workflows, and downstream impacts across underwriting, operations, actuarial, or claims (direct underwriting experience not required).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business needs into clear, structured, and actionable requirements.
  • Highly organized with a strong bias toward documentation, process clarity, and follow-through.
  • Data-driven decision maker with experience evaluating trade-offs across scope, timing, and capacity.
  • Excellent communicator able to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments with shared accountability.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
