Packaging Engineer

Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Direct Hire
Salary: Up to $75,000 (Depending on Experience)

About the Role

The Packaging Engineer will manage projects related to packaging component design, qualification, and process improvements. This role involves contributing to projects across all stages, including scope definition, feasibility, design, simulation, cost/benefit analyses, project planning, implementation, and post-implementation follow-up. You will work on cross-functional projects, lead smaller project teams, and ensure that all work meets business, quality, and regulatory compliance objectives.
Responsibilities:
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions for quality, efficiency, profitability, and compliance improvements
  • Apply new technologies or techniques to existing packaging processes
  • Upgrade processes to meet regulatory requirements or incorporate new components or materials
  • Define project scope and evaluate alternative solutions
  • Develop tactical plans and prioritize tasks to achieve project goals
  • Lead implementation efforts for smaller projects or discrete portions of larger projects
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process issues, providing short- and long-term solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve system problems and optimize output
  • Ensure cGMP and regulatory compliance in all projects and activities
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related field
  • 4–6 years’ experience in regulatory affairs, operations, quality assurance, procurement, or development in pharmaceutical, biological, or related manufacturing environments
Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and oral communication, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and industry best practices for packaging engineering, component qualification, and material selection
  • Strong problem-solving and project management abilities
