About This Position

Summary:

The Materials QA/QC Technician is responsible for ensuring that all materials used in fabrication or construction meet company and client quality standards, specifications, and project requirements. This position involves inspecting, verifying, documenting, and tracking materials from receipt through installation to ensure full compliance with applicable codes, drawings, and quality procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect incoming materials for compliance with purchase orders, material specifications, and project requirements.
  • Verify material certifications (MTRs), heat numbers, and traceability documentation.
  • Conduct inspections during fabrication or assembly to ensure materials are used correctly and remain identifiable throughout the process.
  • Maintain accurate records of material receiving, inspection results, and material traceability logs.
  • Support and assist with Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and follow-up verifications.
  • Work closely with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure proper storage, handling, and segregation of materials.
  • Assist with welding consumable control, including storage conditions, batch tracking, and issuance records.
  • Participate in internal audits and client inspections as required.
  • Support project close-out documentation by ensuring all material records are complete and accurate.
  • Adhere to all company safety and quality policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of QA/QC experience in fabrication, construction, or related heavy industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with ASME, AWS, or ASTM codes and standards is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and material data sheets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and document management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, climb, grasp, use hands or fingers, grip, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and to perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
