About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Sr Data Security Engineer in United States.
This is a high-impact security engineering role focused on protecting sensitive healthcare and financial data at the core of a rapidly evolving, data-driven platform. You will design and implement controls that secure structured data environments, ensuring visibility into how data is accessed, by whom, and for what purpose. The role is highly hands-on, centered on building and operating security solutions across databases, APIs, and emerging AI-driven workloads. You will play a key part in detecting anomalous behavior, reducing risk, and strengthening protections against misuse or unauthorized access. Beyond monitoring, you will contribute to cryptographic initiatives including encryption strategies and key management approaches. This position requires close collaboration with data, infrastructure, and application teams to embed security into every layer of the data ecosystem. It is a builder’s role where your engineering decisions directly shape the protection of mission-critical information.
- Design, build, and maintain database activity monitoring solutions to provide deep visibility into structured data access patterns.
- Analyze database usage across services, APIs, service accounts, and AI-driven systems to detect anomalies, misuse, or risky behavior.
- Develop alerting mechanisms and security controls to identify unauthorized access, abnormal activity, and automation risks.
- Partner with engineering teams to improve understanding of data access flows, ensuring clear traceability of “who accessed what and why.”
- Support implementation of column-level encryption strategies, including tokenization and format-preserving encryption (FPE).
- Collaborate on key management and cryptographic solutions using tools such as Vault or other enterprise-grade systems.
- Define and improve secure database access patterns, including certificate-based authentication and PKI-based trust models.
- Work closely with identity, database, and application teams to strengthen authentication, authorization, and auditability of data access.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives by prioritizing security risks and driving execution in complex, evolving environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building or operating database security, monitoring, or hardening solutions in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with database activity monitoring tools such as Imperva or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of cryptographic concepts, including encryption, tokenization, and format-preserving encryption (FPE).
- Experience with key management and security tooling such as HashiCorp Vault or equivalent solutions.
- Knowledge of certificate management, PKI, and secure authentication mechanisms.
- Solid understanding of how applications, APIs, service accounts, and AI/ML workloads interact with databases.
- Experience working in regulated or high-sensitivity data environments is highly valuable.
- Strong ability to prioritize, execute, and deliver outcomes in complex and ambiguous technical settings.
- Excellent collaboration skills with experience working alongside database administrators and platform engineering teams.
- Competitive annual salary range: $109,500 – $175,500, plus performance-based incentives
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
- Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions and dependent care support
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
- Unlimited paid time off and paid parental leave
- Wellness and fitness reimbursement programs
- Ongoing education support and tuition assistance
- Financial literacy and healthcare savings programs
- Remote-first work environment with structured onboarding and in-person training sessions
- Inclusive workplace culture focused on diversity, authenticity, and employee well-being
