SUMMARY:

The Shade Room is seeking a dynamic and passionate Intern to join our media company. This internship offers a comprehensive introduction to the fast-paced world of media and entertainment, providing hands-on experience in various facets of the industry. As an intern, you will support the Editorial team. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about media creation and distribution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in writing articles and other forms of written content.
  • Assist with developing original content ideas that align with the organization’s goals and audience interests.
  • Conduct research to support content development and fact-checking.
  • Collaborate with editors and writers to brainstorm and develop new content ideas
  • Assist with ensuring all content adheres to the company's style guide and editorial standards.
  • Assist with managing and organizing editorial calendars.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback to improve writing quality and style.
  • Assist with managing multiple writing projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Assist in promoting content through various platforms to increase readership
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summer 2026 TSR Internship Program:

  • The Summer 2026 internship dates are June 8, 2026 to July 31, 2026.
  • Applications close on April 22, 2026, at 11:59 pm PST. We suggest you apply as soon as possible.
  • To be considered for this internship, applicants must be at least 18 years old and live in Los Angeles, California.
  • The program welcomes candidates who are presently enrolled in a college or university, who have recently graduated, or who are pursuing new career paths, including those who are not currently enrolled in any academic program.
  • Internships are paid and do not require course credit. If you would like course credit in addition to pay, we will be happy to assist with any necessary documentation.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong interest in pop culture, and news that centers the Black audiences.
  • Some familiarity with Google drive and WordPress.
  • Strong writing skills — clear, concise, factual AP-style writing.
  • Ability to research & fact-check — verifying information, sourcing responsibly, and using credible databases.
  • Interest in learning SEO.
  • Some knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Google Analytics).
  • Basic understanding of Instagram, TikTok, X, and Threads.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and adaptability.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work 24 hours per week.
  • Although The Shade Room is a fully remote company, interns are required to work from Los Angeles, California. All housing arrangements and related expenses are the responsibility of the intern; The Shade Room does not provide or reimburse housing accommodations.
  • Legal right to work in the US.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Business Marketing, Communication, English or related field preferred but not required.
  • Open to applicants pursuing new career paths in editorial writing, including those who are not currently enrolled in any academic program.
  • Prior experience with student publications, newsrooms, campus media, or social media content creation is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with tools such as WordPress, Canva, CapCut, or similar is helpful but not required.
  • Must have a working laptop and cellphone with internet connection.


COMPENSATION

Hourly rate: $18.50
