As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will join the team responsible for a unified data access layer that processes over 70% of the organization’s total API traffic. This role sits at the heart of a global tech stack, providing a sophisticated GraphQL interface that connects user-facing products with robust backend infrastructure. You will be part of a tenured, highly experienced team that treats platform engineering as a product, setting the standard for next-generation architecture and developer experience. Accountabilities:
  • Core Platform Evolution: Lead high-impact, complex coding projects to evolve a revolutionary GraphQL platform, ensuring it remains the industry standard for seamless data access and efficiency.

  • Technical Roadmap Design: Navigate ambiguity by refining abstract requirements into concrete technical roadmaps that improve platform reliability, capabilities, and long-term performance.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with infrastructure and product engineering teams to support tenant autonomy and deliver a superior end-to-end developer experience.

  • Knowledge Sharing & Strategy: Contribute to the strategic planning process and roadmap while actively sharing expertise through pairing, mentorship, and high-quality code reviews.

  • Sustainable Reliability: Participate in a shared on-call rotation with a focus on long-term reliability fixes and sustainable engineering practices to minimize operational friction.

  • Open Source Contribution: Drive improvements to the platform that serve both internal developers and the global Open Source community.

Requirements:
  • Professional Experience: 6+ years of experience in a backend or platform engineering role, ideally within a team that owned a high-scale developer platform.

  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency in operating critical online backend services and experience shipping high-visibility, complex software projects.

  • GraphQL & Language Expertise: Strong expertise in GraphQL and Kotlin is highly preferred, along with an interest in AI-enabled development workflows.

  • Collaborative Mindset: A proven interest in working cross-team with both product-focused and infrastructure-oriented engineers to solve architectural challenges.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to thrive in a deep-work culture, solving "hard problems" with a focus on quality, scalability, and tenant team success.

  • Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts and influence platform strategy through clear documentation and peer collaboration.
