Camp Lead Staff at Georgia Baptist Childrens Home – Baxley, Georgia

Job Title: Camp Lead Staff

Reports To: Program Coordinator - Camp Hawkins

Summary of the Job:

Camp Lead Staff member is responsible for assisting with the overall management of campers, camp activities, and supporting a team of counselors. The Camp Lead Staff will work directly with campers and staff to deliver quality programming, supervise activities, and handle any issues that arise.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Lead and support a team of counselors, providing guidance, training, and feedback.
2. Oversee daily camp operations, ensuring that all activities run smoothly and according to schedule.
3. Ensure that all camp staff are adhering to camp policies and procedures.
4. Act as the primary point of contact for counselors and campers regarding issues, concerns, and feedback.
5. Participate in staff orientation and camp evaluations.
6. Assist with cottage/camp set-up and regular upkeep.
7. Ensure the physical and emotional safety of campers at all times.
8. Monitor campers during activities, meals, and downtime.
9. Assist in planning and organizing camp activities and events.
10. Serve as liaison between Camp Hawkins Program Specialist and counselors.
11. Communicate with parents/guardians about camper progress, concerns, and accomplishments, as necessary.
12. Keep staff and campers informed about schedules, expectations, and changes.
13. Assist with camper registration, check-out, evening programs, campouts, and devotions.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Live in a shared environment with a large group of counselors and campers.
2. Foster a camp environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and community.
3. Set the tone for camp by modeling positive behavior, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
4. Ensure that the camp’s core values and mission are upheld in daily operations.
5. Represent the agency favorably at all times.
6. Perform other duties as assigned by camp leadership.

Qualifications:

1. At least 21 years of age
2. Have the physical ability, energy, flexibility and maturity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job including performing a variety of tasks outside in various climates.
3. Strong leadership and organizational skills.
4. Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
5. Possess conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
6. Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
7. Display a Christian character.

• Agree to abide by all the policies, rules, guidelines and regulations of the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, Inc.
• Exhibit tactfulness and good judgment in dealing with people.
• Familiar with traditional Baptist tenets, customs and practices and shall maintain a compatible lifestyle.
• Meet all employee guidelines and qualifications as outlined by GBCH&FM, license, contracts and accreditation.

• Complete required training prior to and/or during camp
• Favorable MVR and background check
• Maintain a valid State Driver’s License as required.
• Maintain the physical ability to operate agency vehicles and to carry out essential job duties to include performance of Emergency Safety Interventions including physical control positions.
