Job Overview

Van Winkle & Company, Inc. is seeking a motivated Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support on-site execution of commercial construction projects throughout the Southeast. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional looking to grow within a respected construction management firm and gain hands-on exposure across all phases of constructionfrom pre-planning through closeout. Working closely with Project Managers and Superintendents, this position plays a critical role in documentation, coordination, procurement, and quality control on active jobsites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager with all aspects of project execution

  • Support the Superintendent with coordination and day-to-day jobsite needs

  • Maintain document control for all project records and correspondence

  • Manage and support technology platforms and project management software

  • Assist with schedule development, buyout, and pre-construction planning

  • Support procurement and inventory management of materials and services

  • Generate, process, and maintain project logs including RFIs, submittals, photos, and reports

  • Prepare, process, and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs)

  • Prepare, process, and distribute Submittals

  • Assist with change management documentation and tracking

  • Support material management, including delivery timing, quantities, and logistics

  • Generate and distribute meeting agendas and meeting minutes

  • Assist with subcontractor meetings, OAC meetings, and pre-installation meetings

  • Support quality control and quality management efforts across the project lifecycle

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial construction preferred

  • Prior on-site experience as a Project Engineer or Project Management Role preferred

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred

  • Working knowledge of construction processes from groundbreaking through closeout

  • Exposure to steel, concrete, masonry, and wood-framed construction (multi-family, hospitality, student housing, senior living)

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, on-site environment

  • Proficiency with construction software and Microsoft Office tools

  • Willingness to travel throughout Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida, primarily within a 3-hour radius of Atlanta

  • A background check will be completed as part of the onboarding process, in compliance with applicable laws
