Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the purchasing activities for direct and indirect spend in the assigned location.
Responsibilities
- Managing the daily activity as well as training and development of direct reports. Driving accountability for completing purchasing activities such as rfq’s, PO placement, delivery expediting and cost resolution timely and accurately in accordance with established policies and procedures to meet manufacturing and customer requirements at the highest quality, best total cost, and shortest lead time.
- Managing site supply base; driving performance improvements in the areas of cost, quality, and delivery.
- Actively participate and drive in the creation and achievement of site goals and objectives regarding:
- Direct Material Cost Savings & Margin enhancement.
- Supplier Delivery Performance of materials and documentation requirements.
- Establish and execute plans to meet the goals and objectives.
- Directly working with the extended Global Supply Chain organization to leverage the Global Supplier Roadmaps or if necessary, establish and negotiate Regional/site-level material purchase contracts to drive savings and mitigate unfavorable price fluctuations.
- Represent the site in the creation of the Global Supplier Roadmap strategies for direct material purchasing and manage the local compliance to the published Supplier roadmaps.
- Supporting and driving adoption of global IP IGSC initiatives relating to the purchase of direct and Indirect materials within the site.
- Site Supplier management to drive continuous improvement and issue resolution regarding cost, quality and delivery reliability.
- Manage the activities of direct reports to support Manufacturing Operations to meet Supply Chain and Operations performance targets.
- Drive working capital improvements through efficient inventory utilization concepts to reduce Safety Stock requirements and reduction of Excess and Obsolete inventory.
- Work cross-functionally to foster a “Team” environment to maximize opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reductions.
- Employee coaching and development of direct reports
Qualifications
Education: BA/BS required;
Professional Certifications: C.P.M., C.P.I.M. preferred.
Experience: 5+ years’ management experience in a manufacturing operation with experience in and/or responsibility for purchasing, supplier management, and cost reduction activities.
Travel: Domestic and International travel to IP sites and suppliers is required (15%).
Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Must be able to positively influence other functional areas to ensure process and policies are adhered to.
- Demonstrates strong leadership ability, vision, and innovative thinking.
- Technical/engineering competency & ability to read blue prints
- Experience working with advanced ERP / MRP systems as well as MS Office Software for analytical and financial analysis. SAP experience preferred.
- Experience within a global sourcing environment working across multiple cultures.
Logistics experience with exposure to import-export requirements is a plus. (Certificates of Origin)
