This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Applies standard engineering techniques to design, develop, execute, and analyze tests for electrical components, equipment, software systems, and networks. Responsible for the design and execution of comprehensive test plans to validate the electronic subsystems used to monitor, communicate with, and control launch vehicles, spacecraft, satellites, and their ground support systems.

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead testing for lithium-ion cells, modules and energy storage systems for spacecraft applications
  • Design experimental and standard tests for new products and components
  • Develop & create comprehensive test plans for electrical/electronic systems
  • Document test articles, test configuration, and reference documents
  • Collect data, analyze results, evaluate trends & report findings
  • Write test scripts based on purpose of test
  • Perform battery & cell electrical performance testing in engineering laboratory or testing facility
  • Execute environmental testing including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC
  • Lead test failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Participate in Design Reviews & Requirement Traceability
  • Deliver Test Compliance Matrix
  • Understand Certification/Regulatory Requirements to execute lab tests (MIL-STD 461, DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, etc.)
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Root Cause Investigations, and Functional Safety Hazard Analyses

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with lab test equipment (Power Supply, DMM, Oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Experience with software tools such as LabView, JIRA, Matlab, or similar tools
  • Direct hands-on experience developing and executing test plans for complex electronics systems
  • Familiarity with industry-standard electrical test equipment and procedures
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with battery or cell testing equipment (e.g., Arbin or similar systems)
  • Experience with fault tree analysis and Design Failure Mode and Effects (DFMEA) analysis for HV systems
  • Experience performing modeling and simulation of electrical and/or electrochemical systems
  • Experience conducting tests in challenging environments
  • Experience with R&D or systems integration environments
  • HV battery experience
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to battery systems in aerospace applications

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
