Project Engineer/Geologist I – Sausalito, CA

Position Summary:

Blackburn Consulting is seeking a full-time Project Engineer or Geologist to work on engineering and geology projects. Project Engineers and Geologists at Blackburn Consulting work under the direction of the Director of Geotechnical Services and senior firm leadership. This candidate shall have 0-2+ years of experience in a project-based, geotechnical engineering-related field. This position requires occasional travel to project-related sites, critical thinking, and the ability to learn and adopt project-based problem solving.

Blackburn Consulting provides geotechnical, geo-environmental, construction, forensics and laboratory testing services throughout California with offices in Auburn, West Sacramento, Sausalito, Fresno, and Escondido. We have an extensive geotechnical and materials testing lab in West Sacramento, CA and additional lab capabilities in Sausalito, Fresno, and Escondido. We focus primarily on public works projects in the flood control and transportation market sectors.

Technical Duties:

• Works in a learning capacity and receives on-the-job training in fieldwork and engineering analysis
• Prepares simple designs, calculations and draft reports
• Gathers and compiles data at the direction of Project Managers and Senior Engineers
• Performs historical and analytical project research
• Engages in simple data and results analysis
• Performs laboratory tests
• Logs geotechnical borings and supervises field investigation activities

Essential Duties:

• Communicate clearly with internal and external team members
• Receive direction well from others
• Exhibit basic understanding of project budgets
• Accurately track time and expenses
• Coordinate with multiple parties to complete work
• Use and manipulate basic Microsoft Office, CAD and pdf software

Essential Abilities:

• Multi-task between projects
• Deliver high-quality deliverables in a timely manner
• Produce high-quality technical writing
• Exhibit good interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate willingness to learn and grow

Technical Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geology with EIT or GIT
• 0-2+ years of relevant experience
• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly in person and over telephone
• Visual acuity to perform job duties
• Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, sit, push and pull up to 40 lbs of weight
• Physical ability to hand auger
• Must be insurable under company vehicle policy
