Starting Salary Range: $31,333 - $36,862
Job Summary:
The Well Associate provides quality care and education for The Well, Church Health's Prevention and Wellness Education program, serving children from the YMCA, the Church Health Clinic, and Church Health Staff families. This includes guiding children in independent exploration and group activities. Also included in the responsibilities of the Associate are leading group classes offered to children and families, collaborating with Well Leadership, and assisting in training interns and volunteers about policies and procedures in The Well program when needed. Associates are also involved in outreach events. Activities should address, but are not limited to, the six root causes in the program: Nutrition, Physical Activity, Body Image, Self-Esteem, Safety Education, and Violence Prevention.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Receives guidance from Well Leadership regarding high quality care and research-based prevention and wellness education. This is done through the lens of whole person health in body, mind, and spirit and includes our cornerstone child focused health coaching program, Plan To Get Healthy. All work is done within the philosophy that The Well is child centered, family focused, and ministry minded with a promise to families to keep children safe, learning, and happy.
- Teaches children (ages 6 weeks – 12 years) in individual exploration and group teaching activities in the Children's Area, Infant Toddler Room, and Intergenerational Art Studio and other environments. This includes teaching curriculum and keeping children safe, learning, and happy.
- Consults with Well Leadership regarding lesson plans, situations, and the needs of children we serve; Reviewing and revising work as necessary.
- Communicates with children, families, Church Health staff, outside groups and agencies, interns, and volunteers with information about The Well program and Church Health. The majority of communication is done orally with some written communication i.e. giving tours, providing support with field trip implementation, and representing our work area at outreach events.
- Shadows and partners with Well Leadership when appropriate in the Church Health Clinic for consultations.
- Creates new lesson plans when assigned based on the needs of our clients, program philosophy, developmentally appropriate practice, different methods of teaching, and current research to educate the children we serve; Assemble the lessons and materials; Execute the lesson plans.
- Participates in everyday tasks such as disinfecting and tidying rooms.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge about child development is important to understand the stages and appropriate activities to offer.
- Strong desire to work with children of all ages, backgrounds, races, religions, and abilities.
- Reading, writing, grammar, and math skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both oral/written with a broad base of stakeholders.
- Ability to coach and provide instruction to others.
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Moderate level of desktop computer skills to include the O365 productivity software suite.
Education and Experience:
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- An Associate's Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Family Studies, Health Studies, Exercise & Movement Science, or other related degrees is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience working with children.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is frequently active in nature and requires the ability to move around a large workspace on multiple floors. Requires some amount of computer work and hand dexterity and the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. on a regular basis.
