About This Position

Job Summary

The purpose of this classification is to conduct research, to assist attorneys and judicial staff in court, to serve as the primary Grand Jury Clerk, to oversee and manage Open Records Requests, to manage/oversee Asset Forfeiture requirements, and to provide direction staff as assigned. The District Attorney, Chief Assistant District Attorney, or Senior Assistant District Attorney will assign, and review said work in respect to the nature and propriety of the results.

Essential Functions

Confers with management to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment.

Works as the primary grand jury clerk, preparing all necessary cases and documentation for each session of the grand jury; works with assistant district attorneys to ensure all necessary preparatory case work has been completed prior to each grand jury date.

Serves as the primary internal and external point-of-contact for all open records requests; ensures compliance with all open records laws; gathers, reviews, redacts and disseminates requested records in accordance with state law; maintains accurate records; oversees all publications; responsible for providing quotes/estimates to requestors of records in accordance with state law; provides all funds collected, that are associated with open records process, to the DA Operations Manager for proper fiscal accounting.

Oversees all Asset Forfeiture responsibilities; responsible for working with assistant district attorneys regarding compliance with state law regarding all aspects of asset forfeiture cases; serves as the liaison with local law enforcement regarding all asset forfeiture matters; submits reports to the District Attorney, and state and federal agencies, as required; works with the DA Operations Manager to confirm all funds have been collected and deposited into the authorized bank account, in accordance with court orders, for proper fiscal accounting.


Reviews rules of procedure and calendar deadlines.

Organizes and manages document production and litigation support, including reviewing, indexing, organizing, and analyzing documents; follows up on outstanding discovery requests.

Operates or uses various equipment and supplies to complete work assignments; operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, internet, email, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Effectively communicate with management, other employees, court personnel, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, reviews status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Duties: Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of County and department principles, best practice standards, procedures, operations, and functions; applicable county, state, and federal laws.

Skill in maintaining composure in a variety of stressful situations. Skill in operating modern office equipment.

Skill in oral and written communication; communicating effectively with attorneys, coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county and office policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.

Ability to act as lead person or crew leader, providing guidance to a work unit, coordinating activities, and reviewing work of the unit.

Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Ability to utilize consulting and advisory data and information, as well as reference, descriptive and/or design data and information as applicable.

Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.

Ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgement to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.


Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office-like environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field,
  2. Two (2) years of administrative support experience in a legal setting,
  3. OR have a combination of education, training and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  4. Must possess and maintain certification as a Notary Public.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Possess a paralegal certificate, diploma or degree.
  2. Possess certifications from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA)
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
