Job Description

The Facility Construction Management (FCM) department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Journeyperson Electrician. Reporting to the Supervisor (FCM), this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as possible.
The position is responsible for providing electrical services and oversight for Municipal electrical infrastructure and capital projects. The Electrician will operate, service, repair and modify the electrical power supply, carry out maintenance work, inspect electrical material and systems, diagnose potential problems, safety hazards, operating failures and defects. With thorough knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulation, BC Building Code and industry standards, knowledge of building automated systems, the electrician will maintain, repair, modify and install electrical and electro-mechanical components, and heating and cooling systems.
Qualified candidates possess a completed Journeyperson Electrical Trade Certification/Red Seal Interprovincial Endorsement, and 3-5 years of post-Trade Certification work experience in a similar role with focus on a variety of electrical systems in building, civil infrastructure, utilities, and building automation. Qualified candidates will have comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code with a focus on hazard identification and safety precautions; knowledge of electrical distribution system for buildings, motors, lighting and events; experience with building automation systems, and familiarity with best practices for data cabling, fiber optic cabling and other IT related cabling needs. Technical Safety BC Field Safety Representative endorsement would be an asset. Candidates must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment. The starting wage for this job is $45.31 per hour.
