About This Position

We’re seeking a detail‑driven, proactive Payroll & Benefits Manager to oversee all payroll and benefits administration for our growing, multi‑state organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, understands the complexities of construction payroll, and brings deep expertise with ADP Workforce Now (WFN). You’ll own the full payroll cycle, ensure compliance across multiple states, manage benefit programs, and partner closely with accounting to maintain accurate general ledger reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Management

  • Process biweekly multi‑state payroll for salaried, hourly, and field employees using ADP Workforce Now.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, deductions, garnishments, prevailing wage, certified payroll, and union reporting (if applicable).
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage new hire setup, terminations, pay adjustments, and job costing allocations.
  • Oversee timekeeping systems and resolve discrepancies with supervisors and project managers.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), and supplemental plans.
  • Coordinate open enrollment, benefits changes, and employee communications.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefit brokers and carriers.
  • Manage monthly benefit reconciliations and ensure accurate payroll deductions.

Accounting & General Ledger

  • Prepare and reconcile payroll-related general ledger entries.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team on month-end close, job cost allocations, and audits.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records for internal and external reporting.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare certified payroll reports and ensure compliance with Davis-Bacon, state prevailing wage laws, and other construction‑specific requirements.
  • Maintain employee records in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, including workers’ compensation, 401(k), and financial audits.
  • Generate and analyze payroll and benefits reports as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
  • Advanced proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (WFN)—payroll, reporting, and time & attendance modules.
  • Multi‑state payroll experience required.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Experience preparing and reconciling general ledger payroll entries.
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
