Orthopedic Center of Illinois is hiring a Patient Account Rep to join our Team!

About the role:

The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for managing patient accounts, processing medical billing, and supporting healthcare administration tasks. The role requires attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and the ability to follow established procedures. Key outcomes include accurate and timely account management, clear communication with patients regarding questions or concerns, proper handling of insurance claims and denials, adherence to billing policies and regulatory requirements, and contributing to a positive and professional patient experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in customer service, administrative support, or a healthcare-related role
  • Basic understanding of medical billing or insurance processes, or a strong interest in learning
  • Comfort working with computers, electronic systems, and face-to-face patients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in patient accounts, medical billing, and/or insurance follow-up
  • Associate's degree or coursework in healthcare administration, business, or a related field
  • Familiarity with hospital billing systems and/or electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Exposure to medical coding standards such as ICD-10

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain patient accounts, ensuring accuracy in billing and coding
  • Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide clear explanations of charges and insurance coverage
  • Collaborate with medical coding staff to ensure proper coding of services rendered
  • Conduct patient registration and verify insurance information to facilitate billing processes

Skills:

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain billing information clearly and professionally. Attention to detail, organization, and comfort working with electronic systems are important for success in this role. Candidates should be willing to learn healthcare billing processes and insurance guidelines while maintaining a compassionate, respectful approach when working with patients from diverse backgrounds. The ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively both independently and as part of a team is essential.
