About SE Mutual Insurance

Come dream big with us!

Are you seeking a meaningful career where your work has purpose? Do you want to contribute to a team dedicated to helping families and businesses protect what matters most while strengthening the communities in which we live and work?

Join a trusted, locally owned insurance provider with deep community roots. Since 1938, SE Mutual Insurance Company (SEM) has been committed to delivering coverage tailored to life in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. As a member-owned organization, our mandate is simple: protecting our policyholders’ best interests. And because 97% of our earned premium dollars stay right here in our region, our communities benefit directly.

Our local presence allows us to adapt quickly, make decisions efficiently, and provide the personalized service that sets us apart from larger insurers. We’re proud of our long-standing heritage - and even prouder to support the people who call this region home.

The Position

We’re looking for a Claims Manager to join our team. As Claims Manager, you will lead, develop, and inspire a team of high-performing adjusters while actively contributing to SEM’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims experience for our policyholders. This position combines strong people leadership with technical claims expertise and operational oversight, aligned with SEM’s established claims handling standards and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of adjusters by setting clear expectations, providing regular coaching, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to the development and execution of departmental and organizational goals, ensuring claims operations support broader business objectives
  • Promote engagement and productivity by maintaining open, transparent communication and keeping staff informed of operational changes, priorities, and strategic direction
  • Provide technical leadership related to coverage analysis, policy interpretation, exposure recognition, and liability determination to support timely and effective claim resolution
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle claims when required, ensuring outcomes are fair and consistent
  • Conduct regular audits of claim files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with documentation and handling standards
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and claims handling best practices
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining when to retain external investigators or experts on complex claims
  • Provide expert guidance and insight to cross-functional teams and support collaborative problem-solving across the organization
  • Maintain current professional and industry knowledge through ongoing education, workshops, professional publications, and industry networking
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, process improvement efforts, and other special projects as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in property claims adjusting
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation considered an asset
  • Adjuster license (or the ability to obtain) is necessary
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and engage on-site and remote employees and drive business results

What We Offer

As part of our amazing team, you will be inspired to be and do your best every day. Here are some of the benefits our team members enjoy:

  • A chance to grow with a forward-thinking, local company that values innovation, community, and family.
  • Comprehensive health and dental coverage – including virtual access to Online Doctors – fully paid by SEM.
  • An annual Wellness Spending Account to help you maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
  • Generous time-off benefits, including vacation, sick leave, six personal days each year, and your birthday off.
  • Paid volunteer time off so you can give back to the community you care about.
  • A 100% employer-matched RRSP program to help you plan your future.
  • Professional development opportunities to support your personal and career growth.
