Position Summary:

The Scale House Clerk is responsible for operating the truck scale and managing inbound and outbound truck transactions at the rock yard. This position ensures accurate weighing of materials, proper documentation of loads, and efficient communication with drivers, customers, and yard personnel. The Scale House Clerk plays a critical role in maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring smooth daily operations of the yard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate the truck scale to weigh incoming and outgoing trucks transporting rock, aggregate, sand, and other materials.
• Issue scale tickets, delivery receipts, and invoices to drivers and customers.
• Accurately enter load information into the scale software and company systems.
• Verify customer accounts, job numbers, and purchase orders before processing transactions.
• Maintain accurate records of daily scale transactions and material quantities.
• Communicate with drivers to ensure proper load placement and yard traffic flow.
• Coordinate with yard personnel regarding product availability and loading operations.
• Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers with product inquiries, pricing, and delivery information.
• Monitor trucks entering and exiting the facility to ensure compliance with safety procedures and company policies.
• Perform basic administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and report preparation.
• Balance daily scale reports and reconcile discrepancies.
• Assist with inventory tracking and reporting for yard materials.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional scale house environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in a scale house, trucking, construction materials, or industrial environment preferred.
• Basic computer skills and experience with data entry or scale software.
• Experience in Excel Required.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and coworkers.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the scale system.
• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, or step outside the scale house to assist drivers if needed.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to work in an environment with truck traffic, noise, and dust typical of an aggregate yard.
• Must be able to work some Saturdays as needed.
