Payroll Supervisor - Franklin Mountain Management Full-Time

Franklin Mountain Management (FMM) provides best-practice Business Services to FMI and FM family of companies in the areas such as Financial Accounting, Investor Relations, HR, IT, Purchasing and Procurement, Legal, and Risk Management. FMM is seeking a payroll professional to join our team in the role of Payroll Supervisor. Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Vice President – ACTG Controls & Payroll Administration, the Payroll Supervisor will oversee payroll administration for Franklin Mountain Management LLC and affiliates and serves as the primary liaison between the Human Resources and Accounting departments. This position is responsible for monitoring daily payroll activities and tasks necessary to process error-free payrolls, payroll journal entries and accruals, establish and manage relationships with internal customers, operations teams, external auditors, and state and federal agencies for the organization. The position requires time spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the payroll department, and supervision of the payroll staff.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data. Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.

  1. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.
  2. Perform &/or review and approve applicable journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  3. Maintain payroll processing and tax compliance in keeping with applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  4. Partner closely with HR and Operations teams to ensure effective payroll support.
  5. Facilitate and enforce compliance with payroll procedures and payroll processing deadlines.
  6. Daily activities:
    1. Extract labor detail reports from time keeping systems. Work closely with supervisors, managers and operations teams to ensure accurate labor reports, address corrections, errors, process internal reports to validate payroll data.
    2. Audit time transactions i.e. any missing or incorrect punches. Maintain accurate ADP payroll profiles, audit payroll data and employee payroll information in ADP. Respond to and address payroll matters as they arise for the applicable payroll and entity being processed.
    3. Coach and mentor payroll accountants on payroll activities.
  1. Biweekly activities:
    1. Approve bi-weekly payrolls prior to submission for final processing
    2. Review and approve payroll corrections and manual check requests
    3. Set-up/Process court orders (child support, garnishments), respond to verification of employment/compensation requests.
    4. Prepare and submit internal reports and payroll metrics as requested.
  1. Monthly/Quarterly/Annual activities:
    1. Audit payrolls to ensure compliance; validate accuracy of withholdings for taxes, benefits, etc.
    2. Prepare and validate monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports.
    3. Provide payroll data requests required for audits.
    4. Track and report on labor cost, overtime, and payroll issues related to frequent offenders related to missed punches, incomplete or inaccurate request forms, etc.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5 years payroll administration experience with supervisory responsibility. Payroll experience must include:
    • Multi-State payroll processing experience in CO/NM/TX.
    • Multi-Company and Multi-Industry payroll experience.
    • Restaurant payroll and tip processing experience strongly preferred.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • ADP Workforce Now Payroll, Time and Attendance and HRIS
    • POS/Timekeeping systems: Aloha, CrunchTime, Toast a plus
    • MS Office Suite, advanced proficiency with MS Excel strongly preferred
