Nysmith School is seeking a highly motivated experienced Building Engineer with 5+ years of experience with thorough understanding of HVAC equipment, safety practices, building systems, general building maintenance including minor plumbing and electrical repairs in an educational or institutional setting with a strong focus on student safety, regulatory compliance, and minimizing disruptions to academic activities

Salary: Starting at $76,000 Annually

Building Engineer Duties and Responsibilities

Assist Facilities Operations Director with implementing safety policies, procedures and standardsInspect and perform preventive maintenance, run diagnostic test on buildings HVAC equipment to ensure systems are in accordance with manufactures specifications. Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs.Report all maintenance functions and repairs Monitor all building equipment & report issues to Director to ensure proper operation & upkeep.Draft and prepare detailed reports, update & complete PM sheets related to building maintenance repairs, including lighting & plumbing inventory.Ensure the building meets all safety and health regulationsWork with outside vendors and contractors for maintenance and repair services.Assist Director to complete projects, PM’s or other service request in a timely matter.Assist with clearing of snow before or after hours as needed.Assist with parking lot assistance during student arrival and dismissal as neededAssist with landscaping as neededPerform other related work as requiredMust be available for on-call emergencies 24/7 (especially during winter months for snow removal)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience strong problem-solving skills and mush be a self-starter 5+ years of experience in building maintenance and repairKnowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS)Strong working knowledge of applicable safety regulations and proceduresAbility to troubleshoot and repair a variety of building systemsAbility to lift heavy objects and perform physical laborExcellent communication and organizational skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to pass a background checkAbility to speak English fluently and use English in a grammatically correct fashionGeneral computer knowledge, to include Microsoft Office, Excel and Microsoft 365Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment
Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, technical trade school certification preferredCFC Universal License required
Working Conditions

The work environment is a private PreK – 8th grade schoolThis is a year-round position working hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm weekdays
