About This Position

  • Job Summary
    • “The Paramedic is a professional care provider under the direction of the Respiratory Director, or designee, who utilizes physician’s orders and standards, plans, provides and directs care. Paramedics may perform skills within their scope of practice through the Kentucky Board of EMS. Must be able to perform respiratory care skills including: medication administration via inhalation, documentation, education of disease process, collaboration with other healthcare providers, maintain infection control and safety standards, technical skills within the scope of practice, and critical thinking. The paramedic will participate in direct patient care and are responsible for leadership of self under the direction of a respiratory therapist. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T values (Friendless, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
  • Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort
    • Works in a well lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Must be attentive to details. Stress from deadlines and strict regulations. Schedule may consist of weekends, holidays and shift work. Schedule may be adjusted to cover departmental needs to provide patient care. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods in a stationary position and moving around the unit are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and antineoplastic agents. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently.

  • Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
    • Education: Current Paramedic Licensure
    • Experience: One (1) year experience in Respiratory Care preferred.
    • EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: (See Competency Checklist for department)
  • Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
    • A current paramedic license in the state of Kentucky.
