Phlebotomist at University Health System- San Antonio – San Antonio, Texas

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately and rapidly collects blood and body fluid samples from inpatients and outpatients in the proper container correctly labeling all tubes and promptly delivering blood samples to the laboratory. Timely and accurately collects blood specimens from patients, using appropriate aseptic collection methods and the correct collection system. Utilizes Laboratory LIS to receive specimens, generate labels and create specimen transfer lists. Follows proper infectious/isolation policies. Performs duties promptly, safely, efficiently and reliably. Cares for and handles specimens, supplies and equipment properly. Maintains good guest relations and working relations by following University Health Customer Service Standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. Knowledge of capillary and venipuncture techniques is preferred.

LICENSURE/ CERTIFICATION
Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is not required, but recommended.
