About This Position

Description:

Job Objective/ Summary

The responsibility of a Speech Therapist is to provide therapy to residents, and outpatients under the direction of the Therapy Director. As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), some of the duties include working with individuals to assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-linguistic skills, and swallowing disorders.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Communicate with patients to evaluate their levels of speech or language difficulty.
  • Determine the extent of communication impairments by having a patient complete basic reading and vocalizing tasks or by giving standardized tests.
  • Identify appropriate treatment options, create, and carry out an individualized treatment plan
  • Treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Work with patients to improve their ability to read and write correctly
  • Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
  • Counsel patients and families on how to cope with communication disorders
  • Provide training and education to caregivers and other professionals necessary for patient care/treatment plan
  • Observe or examine resident to detect symptoms that may require medical attention
  • Properly and accurately document/chart observations and other data related to the clinical condition of the resident/patient.
  • Adhere to The Estates at Carpenters’ policies and procedures, including those covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and codes of conduct. Maintain confidentiality and respects resident’s privacy at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Attends and participates in orientation, training and educational activities as required.
  • Dresses appropriately, following appropriate dress and uniform policies and guidelines.
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance as per job requirements and policies.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Job Requirements

Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience

Must possess current license in the State of Florida and Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Requirements

  • Must successfully pass the mandated criminal background checks. (https://info.flclearinghouse.com/)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
  • Must be able to provide official grade transcripts of the education level provided on the employment application.
  • Must be able to provide a copy of his/her own social security card for W-4 documentation.
  • Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 in order to establish identity and authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, personal automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record (if required to drive).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this position, a Speech Therapist may be required to lift or help a resident/patient that may exceed 100lbs. Standing or stooping for long periods of time. Mild physical labor to complete the tasks at hand. Exposure to blood, chemicals, and other bodily fluids.
