Assistant General Manager
Position Summary:
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of a full-service restaurant located in a college community and owned by a state agency. This unique operation serves both as a public dining establishment and a hands-on learning environment where culinary students participate in food preparation and service as part of their academic experience.
The AGM plays a key leadership role in ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and a supportive educational atmosphere. This position collaborates closely with culinary faculty, students, and agency leadership to balance hospitality excellence with workforce development and learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the General Manager in overseeing daily restaurant operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house coordination.
- Act as Head Chef for all culinary operations including prep, execution and delivery of meals in coordination with academic culinary program.
- Help maintain high standards for food quality, customer service, cleanliness, and overall guest experience.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and mentorship to staff and participating culinary students in a supportive learning environment.
- Assist with staff scheduling, training, and team leadership to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor inventory, supplies, and operational needs while supporting cost control efforts.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including food safety standards.
- Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned, including opening and closing responsibilities.
- Support special events, campus partnerships, and restaurant programming as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Completion of a two year culinary degree from an accredited institution
- A minimum of one year of professional culinary experience in a commercial kitchen
- An equivalent combination of education and hands on experience may be considered in place of the above
