EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

Position Summary
- Under general direction, provides basic and advanced emergency medical care for assessment/evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and
  transport of the ill and injured for 911 response, inter-facility transfers, event medical support, and disasters. Provides security,
  emergency/code response, and patient care functions in hospital. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient
  centered care.
Position Responsibilities
- Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
  - The EMT/Basic is responsible for delivering and administering high quality care and transportation to ill and injured persons.
  - The EMT/Basic must demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing for physical and emotional needs of patients.
  - Ability to assess patients with medical conditions with findings reflected in the patient record.
  - Implements interventions consistent with protocols and documents response to treatment.
  - Prepares equipment and supplies.
  - Checks medical equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
  - Restocks and cleans unit after each mission.
  - Knowledgeable in the use of radios and communication systems.
  - Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
  - Participates in staffing special events as required
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
- Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
  - Current certification as Nationally Registered EMT/Basic.
  - Current AHA Health Care Provider CPR certification.
  - Valid driver’s/Chauffeurs License required.
  - Current Iowa EMT/Basic certification.
  - Must meet MGMC’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
  - Must be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
  - Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
- Organizational Requirements:
  - Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
  - An associates degree is preferred.
  - Currently enrolled in a paramedic program.
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  - Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
  - Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and
    grammar.
  - Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking
    questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  - Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to
    problems.
  - Ability to manage one’s time effectively.
  - Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.
