About This Position

Job Summary |
This position is responsible for all of the materials management functions, including receiving, purchasing, inventory control, supply distribution (sterile and non-sterile items), and outgoing mail services. Ensures efficient and cost-effective acquisition, utilization, distribution, and maintenance of supplies used by the Marion Health. Responsible for the Value Analysis Team program and acquisition of all equipment and furnishings for Marion Health, ensuring Marion Health’s investment is protected through prudent buying criteria and controls.
This position is responsible to administer and direct a program to purchase, store and disburse materials, supplies and equipment for hospital use. Supervises staff engaged in buying, receiving, storing and issuing purchased items.
Overall duties include but are not limited to:
Duties/Responsibilities:- Purchases supplies, materials, and equipment for Marion Health.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly.
- Develops and maintains inventory databases for supplies and materials used.
- Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times.
- Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
- Collaborates with sales, customer service, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency in the purchasing and inventory control department.
- Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
- Sets authorization limits for purchasing staff.
- Purchases large and complex items.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing and inventory control with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements |
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
- Five years’ experience in Materials Management in a healthcare setting.
- Five years’ experience in management.

Preferred Job Requirements |
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP)

- Knowledge of policies, governmental regulations and business practices pertinent to the department.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with co-workers, managers, Marion Health Administrators, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion Health.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
- Excellent time management.
- Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
- Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
- Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.

Working Conditions |
- Typical office environment with prolonged sitting and occasional standing and walking.
- Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
- Works with highly confidential information which may be proprietary or protected health information.
- Ability to work hours significantly beyond the normal work week.
- May attend special functions and meetings at various locations within Marion Health and the community.
- Occasional overnight stays.
