About This Position

PRN REGISTERED NURSE needed for busy Rheumatology INFUSION SUITE in Myrtle Beach. Background in INFUSIONS required. Must have excellent computer and customer service skills.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for providing professional nursing care to clinic patients under supervision of physicians and Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain inventory of infusion drugs and supplies needed for clinic, IV supplies, medications, etc.
  2. Place order for medications and supplies one week in advance.
  3. Complete benefit investigation forms for potential new patients for infusions.
  4. Always have infusion room clean/stocked and ready for next day infusions.
  5. Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
  6. Prep patients for IV set up and start IV.
  7. Mix and prepare medications for infusion once patient has been cleared to receive infusion.
  8. Monitor patients while receiving infusions.
  9. Provides basic patient care as ordered by physician.
  10. Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  11. Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed, etc., in patients’ medical record.
  12. Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  13. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and company confidentiality policies.
  14. Maintain supplies in emergency cart and oxygen tanks.
  15. Confirm with ward secretary that all authorizations have been obtained from patient’s insurance carrier one day prior to infusions.
  16. Properly code procedures performed and the units of medications received on billing slip before giving to physician to review.
  17. Assist other nursing staff in current department with voice mails, return calls to patients/pharmacies, etc.
  18. Assist with triaging patients for physicians as time permits.
  19. Provide coverage for physician as needed.

EDUCATION: RN Degree Required

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one-year professional nursing experience, clinic experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: State RN license.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols.
  2. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  3. Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.

SKILLS:

  1. Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
  2. Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  3. Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.

ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work effectively as team members with physicians and other staff.
  2. Ability to appropriately interact with patients, family’s staff and others.
  3. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Combination of office and exam offices. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations. Hepatitis B vaccination and TB test required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Varied activities include sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and lift 100 pounds. Occasional stress from workload. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC and fax. Must be able to use medical equipment such as a stethoscope, EKG machine, ear washing equipment, speculum, scales and blood pressure cuff.
