About This Position

THE THEODORE ROOSEVELT PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY FOUNDATION

“Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.” -Theodore Roosevelt

Since 2014, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation (TRPLF) has been planning and building a new, ambitious kind of presidential library and museum. Other presidential libraries tell the story of a single individual, but the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL) – being built more than a century after T.R.’s death – will do more than preserve history. The TRPL will be a people’s library, bringing Roosevelt’s values and relentless spirit to life at a critical time in our nation and world, while simultaneously championing the stories of all who “dare greatly, think boldly, care deeply, and live passionately.”

The library is currently being constructed in Medora, North Dakota, with a milestone planned for July 4, 2026 – America’s 250th anniversary. Participants at the TRPL will learn from – not just about – Roosevelt’s story, being transformed into the same stunning Badlands that served as the fulcrum in T.R.’s incredible life story.

Guided by the pillar principles of leadership, citizenship, and conservation, the Foundation has partnered with innovative partners – like the award-winning architecture firm, Snøhetta, and the best-in-class story crafters, the Future of Storytelling – to build an institution like no other. With plans to be the most sustainable presidential library and campus ever, a revolutionary approach to interpretive design, and programming that will spread the library’s message into neighboring Theodore Roosevelt National Park and beyond across the globe, the opportunity to join a talented team in building and opening this institution is truly unique.

About the Role

Join the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library as our AV Technician – Events & Programming and help power the experiences that bring our mission to life. This role is focused primarily on live events, public programs, rentals, board meetings, and VIP engagements across the Library’s auditorium, classrooms, café, and outdoor spaces. You will ensure that every microphone works, every screen is clear, and every event runs cleanly and professionally.

While the core focus is events and programming, this role will also provide support to the Exhibits team for troubleshooting, maintenance, and gallery AV coordination as needed.

This is a highly visible, guest-facing role. During peak season and major events, the pace will be fast and hands-on. Off-season work will emphasize preventive maintenance, system optimization, documentation, and preparation for upcoming programs and rentals.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnoses and resolves issues quickly with minimal disruption.
  • Professional Presence: Calm, composed, and service-oriented with presenters, donors, and external partners.
  • Preparation & Organization: Anticipates technical needs and builds clear run-of-show documentation.
  • Collaboration: Works seamlessly with Events, Programs, Visitor Experience, Facilities, and Leadership teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-event system checks and rehearsals.
  • Provide on-site technical support throughout events, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Manage portable AV equipment inventory and storage.
  • Support livestreaming or hybrid events when required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot auditorium and event-space AV systems.
  • Document system configurations, signal flow, and event setups for consistency and repeatability.
  • Provide occasional troubleshooting and minor maintenance support for exhibit AV systems in coordination with the Exhibits team.
  • Coordinate with external AV vendors for large-scale or complex productions

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in audiovisual technology, theater production, live event production, media production, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience in live event AV, theater, corporate production, or higher education environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of live audio mixing, wireless microphone systems, projection systems, and digital presentation platforms.
  • Experience with livestreaming platforms and basic video switching a plus.
  • Familiarity with control systems such as Crestron, Q-SYS, or similar preferred.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the facility during events.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and safely move AV equipment.
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programming schedules.
